Binding the Strong Man
At a time when vast military forces are engaged, or soon will be engaged, in the invasion of the territory held by a cruel enemy, it is well for us to remind ourselves of the crucial issues involved, and to be sure we contribute our individual part to ensure victory.
The English common law holds that "a man's house is his castle," and that every citizen is entitled to protection against invasion of the privacy of his dwelling place. But the present invasion is designed to go straight to the enemy's homeland, and to invade it. Why is such offensive action needed? Why are the two great English-speaking peoples, whose laws have recognized a man's right to an uninvaded home, so resolutely engaged, with their allies. upon this undertaking?
Because in his mental home the enemy has consented to harbor thoughts of such malicious, evil intent that they have placed in jeopardy the peace and progress of the world. Because he has consented to let these cruel, selfish thought forces control his purposes, judgments, and acts. Because he has, to further his wicked intents, conspired to impose through treachery, deceit, cruelty, and physical force his evil will upon the human race. Because he has vowed to wipe out Christianity and its teaching of the supremacy of God, good, destined to be exemplified in the brotherhood of man.
