He Overcame Death, So Must We

The most important scientific fact proved by Christ Jesus was that individual man can, by understanding his spiritual unity with God, overcome death. This means you and me! If we are slow to accept and prove this, the fact remains, unaltered by our ignorant reluctance. Easter observances commemorate Jesus' overcoming of death. Christian Science reveals to each of us the certain way to emulate his work.

The common view is that life is in a mysterious something called matter, material sensation, and material-mindedness. This concept is expressed in a sense of self that starts with a mindless material embryo, develops into an infant physique, is born, grows, matures, and dies. So long as thought believes life to be in matter this transient phenomenon is repeated. Every moment the scene on mortality's stage changes; millions come, millions go. The Christ, or spiritual idea of God and man, enables us to disengage our sense of selfhood from mortality's parade and find our place in the permanence of Principle, Life, and Love.

If transient material life were the verity of being, existence would hardly be worth while. Certainly the sacrifices of this global war could not be justified. The words and works of Christ Jesus and the teachings of Christian Science show that the whole fleeting procession of material life is a tragic mistake, a distorted misconception of life and man, which can be overcome in individual consciousness, as Jesus overcame it, through understanding God.
