I had the privilege of attending...

I had the privilege of attending a Christian Science Sunday School for about twelve years, and the understanding of Truth that I received there has never failed to bring results, when rightly applied. There have been many times when the allurements of physical sense seemed more attractive than the straight and narrow way of Truth, but through the sincere desire to be obedient to divine Love's direction I am experiencing in increasing degree the joy that comes from the knowledge that "no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 1).

I have experienced many physical healings, such as those of blood poisoning, appendicitis, abscessed ears, difficulty with breathing, car sickness, sprains, cuts, and bruises. Some of these healings came through my own understanding of Christian Science and some through the help of faithful practitioners, but each was a definite proof of the healing power of Truth, and for each of them I say. "Thank you, God."

In November, 1941, the protective power of Christian Science was experienced, not only for myself, but also for the other members of our party.

We had started out early on a three-hundred-mile journey. About fifty miles on our way the car skidded on a culvert and swerved from side to side, finally turning over three times on an embankment. The driver and I immediately turned our thoughts to Mrs. Eddy's statement in Science and Health (p. 424), "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents since there is no room for imperfection in perfection."

With the exception of a bruise or two the driver was unhurt, and those in the back seat received no injury whatsoever.

After the car had been righted and I was helped out of it, I was conscious of a sense of pain in my spine and could not walk normally. After calling a practitioner, who impressed upon me the fact that there had been no accident—that in the realm of the real no such thing had occurred—the pain ceased instantly and I walked uprightly. We continued on our way in the car after having it checked for mechanical defects, and had a very pleasant week end.

In less than a week's time, vision which had been impaired was normal, as were indications of a broken collarbone, but it was about ten days before the complete healing of a dazed mental condition was realized. This required much consecrated work, and I shall never cease to be grateful for the many lessons learned. Throughout the entire experience I carried on my work in the office as usual, losing no time from my job, and with the exception of those in the car, the practitioner, and members of my family, no one knew anything about it.

For all the physical healings which I have experienced in Christian Science I am sincerely grateful, but I am even more grateful for the spiritual growth which is being evidenced in the overcoming of temptations, erroneous traits of character, and false family ties. An increased desire for holiness is being expressed in more love, patience, kindness, humility, gentleness, compassion, and consecration to good.

My gratitude is unbounded to the faithful practitioners who are so ready and willing to help at any time. I am grateful to God, and to Mary Baker Eddy, who through a life of earnest endeavor to benefit mankind has given us our beloved textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which all may read and understand. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for all the activities of the Christian Science movement. My daily prayer is that I may grow more and more in the understanding of God, and of man as His image and likeness.—(Miss) Helen Atkins, Barrington, Illinois.
