A well-known clergyman in a recent issue of yours refers to Christian Science as "a cult."

Christian Science is not "a cult," a form of worship or ritual. Christian Science is the Science or demonstrable understanding of God, as taught and demonstrated by Jesus of Nazareth in healing the sick, reforming the sinner, and raising the dead.

Through spiritual revelation Mary Baker Eddy discovered how Jesus healed the sick and did his many other wonderful works, and she founded the Christian Science church to perpetuate her discovery, thus reinstating primitive Christianity, including the healing of the sick, which had vanished from the church about three centuries after the resurrection.

Mrs. Eddy has written in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 228): "If we follow the command of our Master, 'Take no thought for your life,' we shall never depend on bodily conditions, structure, or economy, but we shall be masters of the body, dictate its terms, and form and control it with Truth."
