"What will you do about it?"

Mary Baker Eddy , the beloved Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and the forever Leader of this great redemptive movement, many years ago gave to her followers the stirring thought challenge (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 177): "Never was there a more solemn and imperious call than God makes to us all right here, for fervent devotion and an absolute consecration to the greatest and holiest of all causes. The hour is come. The great battle of Armageddon is upon us." Then farther on she asks significantly. "'What will you do about it?"

The discerning student of this Science of Christianity knows that the battle of Armageddon is not confined to special periods or peoples. It is the age-old warfare in which righteousness ever crosses swords with the so-called forces of evil. It is the great purifying upheaval which inevitably follows when Michael and his angels, symbolizing the power of divine Truth, carry the battle to the cohorts of godless materialism. In our age, the advent of the spirit of Truth promised by the Master and revealed through Christian Science, has brought into the light for destruction errors of men and nations which have been hidden for centuries. The free, democratic way of life—yes. Christianity itself—is under an attack unparalleled in modern history for its boldness and viciousness. Yes, Armageddon is upon us; and, asks our Leader. "What will you do about it?"

Is it enough to reply that one is supporting, physically and financially to the best of his ability, the war efforts of his country? Is it even enough to aver that one is in uniform or in defense work and apparently giving his material all in this crisis? No. The present day Armageddon will be won only as the right thinkers of the world awake to the mental nature of this struggle, realize that the enemy is the cruel, pagan, hypnotic, carnal mind, and that the weapons of our warfare are spiritual, and, as the apostle says, are "mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds." Prayer, intelligent, enlightened prayer—the affirmation of the all-power of Truth, Love, and Principle, and the consequent denial of everything unlike Him—is the vital ammunition needed to ensure victory. What will you do about it?
