Sunday School of The Mother Church

In her Dedicatory Sermon, delivered in January, 1895, our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, refers to the children's contribution to the original Mother Church edifice as the centerpiece of its history, and declares, "The children are destined to witness results which will eclipse Oriental dreams" (Pulpit and Press, p. 8).

When we consider the great needs of the world today, the multitudes crying out for healing, the tremendous problems facing all nations, we can well believe that we are now on the threshold of the time when the results of our Leader's discovery will "eclipse Oriental dreams." For it is only through the understanding of divine Love which Christian Science brings that these multitudes, the sick, the wounded, the sorrowful, the homeless, the destitute, can be healed and comforted.

The children of Mrs. Eddy's time are the parents and teachers of today's children. And these children need the clearest spiritual instruction we can give them. Our youth is coming into manhood and womanhood in the midst of the blackest delusion of fear, hatred, and distress the world has ever known. Already some have been called into active combat in the great struggle. Others will be called. And all must take their place in the great remedial and restorative work of the postwar period.
