Family

One of the limiting beliefs by which mortal mind seeks to prove that man is mortal and a creator, that good and evil are from the same source, that matter has life and intelligence, is that of family relationship. Men have readily accepted this relationship, and have clung to it. It has been kept continually before them. But now, in the midst of war, when families are parted, when millions of men in the armed forces of the world are far from those they love, it is well to consider family from the higher point of view indicated by Christ Jesus and made plain and demonstrable in Christian Science.

A point in his teaching which Jesus frequently reiterated was the fatherhood of God. He did not appropriate such divine fatherhood for himself alone, or for his disciples, but indicated that this fatherhood embraced all. When his disciples asked that they should be taught how to pray, Jesus began by using those familiar and loved words. "Our Father."

On pages 16 and 17 of the Christian Science textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Mary Baker Eddy has given the spiritual sense of the Lord's Prayer. Thus, for "Our Father which art in heaven," she has given us the spiritual sense in the words. "Our Father-Mother God, all-harmonious." Furthermore, on page 332 she writes. "Father-Mother is the name for Deity, which indicates His tender relationship to His spiritual creation."
