Sunday School Notes and Comments

In the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. XX, Sect. 2) Mary Baker Eddy says, "The Sabbath School children shall be taught the Scriptures, and they shall be instructed according to their understanding or ability to grasp the simpler meanings of the divine Principle that they are taught." They learn to love the Bible through the great light thrown on it by "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. They are taught about the prophets, Christ Jesus, and the apostles, and what it was that enabled them to have victories over evil.

The pupils learn that they too can have victories in their daily lives. They realize readily that the same God who revealed the Ten Commandments to Moses is present now to help them. Being taught that God, divine Mind, is the only power and presence, the young students learn to trust God and to love Him.

The pupils can be shown that they demonstrate Truth by being truthful; Love, by being loving and kind; Life, by being active in expressing good. The usefulness of laying hold in their thinking of truthfulness, goodness, obedience, kindness, and so on appeals to the pupils. A little girl who came to the Sunday school for the first time learned the lesson of kindness. The next Sunday she told the teacher that each day of the week she and her little brother put their coats and hats in the proper place when coming in from play. She was beginning to learn in Christian Science the meaning of order, obedience, and kindness.
