The Bible as Educator

Evening Sentinel Holland, Michigan

No education is complete that does not have the Bible in it. We may know all other books, but if we know nothing about the Bible it can hardly be said that we are educated. On the contrary, if we know the Bible, though we may know little about other books, it may be said that we are educated. We cannot go on banishing the Bible from our schools of learning without heaping up disaster and sorrow for ourselves. We are replacing it with books on science and philosophy. We are worshiping the mind rather than God. Our safety lies in permeating our growing knowledge and our increasing mastery of the laws of the universe with the truths the Bible enumerates. It is still true that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. We cannot know so much that we have no further need of God.
