All my life I have been surrounded and protected by Christian Science. I am grateful that my parents knew of the truth and trusted in it at the time of my birth, and that my childhood was free from material remedies.

One outstanding healing at the time of an epidemic while I was attending high school has been, and is, a source of joy and reassurance to me. I was attacked by a form of paralysis and fever which my mother greatly feared, because my father had suffered from another form of it before his death. It finally appeared on my face, but this condition was overcome instantly by the practitioner, who was sitting by my bed. During the completion of this wonderful healing I learned a lesson which has not been forgotten—that man not only is God's image and likeness, but he also knows this and acts accordingly.

At the time of my college entrance examinations, I relied on the statements found on page 128 of Science and Health, under themarginal heading "Practical Science," and with the help of the same beloved practitioner was able to pass four comprehensive examinations with grades above ninety—a condition prerequisite to admission. While away at college I was forced to do most of my own metaphysical work, and I am still learning the value of striving to understand Truth and to prove it.
