The testimonies of healing given in The Christian Science Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel have been such a help to me for over twenty years that I wish to share with others the circumstances of my first healing. Before the healing took place, a wonderful demonstration of divine Love's protecting care was made. The theme of this testimony could be, "Before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear."

I had been living for a year in a strange city, when a serious domestic situation arose. I was so obviously unhappy that an acquaintance, a sincere Christian Scientist, lovingly tried to explain Science to me, but I seemed unable to grasp it or to understand what she gave me to read. She recommended that I see a practitioner, and to please her I called on one. I was deeply impressed by the happiness which the practitioner radiated and by the evidences of a successful and joyful home.

However, I soon forgot my interview, for I became painfully ill with tonsillitis and a severe head cold the next day. I had had tonsillitis annually for several years. At the same time another, more serious, condition developed, which a physician, who was my most intimate acquaintance in the city, said would require a hospital examination. After I had been three weeks in bed, she told me that she had made arrangements for me to be taken to a hospital as soon as I had finished the third large bottle of medicine she had prescribed. She was obliged to leave the city, and said she would turn my case over to another woman physician, who was also a surgeon. The day my physician friend left town, I emptied the remaining medicine into the sink. I had no wish to live, and was determined not to go to a hospital or to communicate with any other physician.
