In the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 369), "The prophylactic and therapeutic (that is, the preventive and curative) arts belong emphatically to Christian Science." Students of Christian Science have proved the truth of this statement many times. Although there is sometimes no way of knowing to what extent Christian Science has prevented disease, accident, and so forth, all its students have had proofs of its curative art.

It was my great privilege to experience a complete and permanent healing of a complication of ailments from which I had suffered for many years. This healing was not only complete and permanent, but it was instantaneous. I had been taken home from work in a very serious condition. A doctor was called, but was unable to give even temporary relief. The following day a good neighbor lent me a copy of the Christian Science textbook. Within less than two hours from the time I started to read this book I was completely healed. This healing took place in 1902, and I do not remember having been away from my work a full day because of illness since that time.

Christian Science has been our only remedy in a family of five during the intervening years, and has never failed. A few years ago a cyst appeared under my left eye. At times it became inflamed and painful. I declared the truth, and each time the pain was relieved for the time being. This continued at intervals until it became increasingly painful. I felt it was time to do more thorough work in Christian Science and to get rid of it entirely. The first step taken was to examine my thinking, and I quickly found I was allowing myself to be disturbed over a certain situation. Soon I was able to see that the whole thing was no part of God's creation. The next morning the cyst dropped off. While I was very grateful, I realize that that which took place in my consciousness was far more valuable to me than just getting rid of the cyst.
