I want to express my gratitude to God for all that Christian Science has done for me, and to relate the following experience.

As I was opening a tin that had been in boiling water in a saucepan for three quarters of an hour, the steam and part of the boiling contents suddenly flew all over the place, and the right side of my face was badly scalded. The lenses of the glasses I was wearing were covered with the stuff, but my eyes were not touched, so the first thing I did was to thank God for protection. My face was becoming very painful, and I was not strong enough to resist the temptation to look in the glass. What I saw frightened me, and after saying "the scientific statement of being" from page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I called up a Christian Science practitioner for help. I then went back to the kitchen and saw the mess all over the walls.

I refused to have that false evidence all around me, so I got some hot soapy water and started to wash the walls. As I did this I began to think things out. It occurred to me that although the walls were covered with the stuff they did not cry out or say, "I am hurt," and I declared that my face was no less material than those walls. I noticed also that the stuff came off very easily, leaving no mark behind, for it was a painted wall, and I declared that Truth "wipes it out in the most effectual manner," thinking of what Mrs. Eddy says (ibid., p. 11). "Truth bestows no pardon upon error, but wipes it out in the most effectual manner." I held on as best I could to these thoughts, but there was a lot of pain and fear to meet.
