Sunday School Observations

I used the following plan with my Sunday school class to good effect. It gave the pupils not only a splendid review, but a new approach to the old lessons.

First we spent several Sundays discussing the Ten Commandments, not as negative statements, but as positive ones. Of the Ten Commandments Moses gave to the children of Israel, only two are stated positively. All the others tell us what not to do. Like explorers in a new land, we examined each admonition in the light of what we are to do. Thus, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." was discussed as. "I shall love only one God, one Life, Truth, Love, Soul, Spirit, Mind, Principle." The command, "Thou shalt not commit adultery," became: "I shall keep my thoughts clean and pure. I shall act in a kindly manner and with loving motives."

Bible stories to illustrate the usefulness of these Commandments were supplemented by experiences of our own.
