Robert Learns about Promotion

[Of Special Interest to Children ]

Robert was not getting along well in school and was afraid that he would not be promoted to the next grade. He had recently been enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School, so his mother told him that she would like him to go with her to see a Christian Science practitioner.

This was a new experience for nine-year-old Robert, and he did not want to go because he was afraid that he would not know what to say or do. His mother said, "God will be with us and tell us what to say, just as He tells practitioners what to say."

She telephoned a practitioner whose name she found listed in The Christian Science Journal, and made an appointment. They arrived promptly at the time set, and Robert lost some of his fear as soon as the practitioner smiled at him. His mother told her of Robert's school troubles. Instead of scolding him, she told him that she had once been a schoolteacher, and that it always made teachers very happy when their boys and girls did their very best, even though some did better work than others.
