When I took up the study of Christian Science almost thirty years ago, I was sick and miserable in both mind and body, and there seemed nowhere to turn for relief.

I had a dear neighbor who I knew had been healed of an incurable disease by Christian Science treatment. I had not the slightest concept of how it was done, but felt sure that it was through prayer—prayer different from that which I had been taught. From this neighbor I procured the address of a Christian Science practitioner, for there was none where I lived. I wrote to the practitioner, asking for one week's treatment, and she sent me a copy of The Christian Science Journal and one of the Sentinel, the first I had ever seen. I read them over and over. It was like finding water after a long thirst, and I felt that I could never drink enough.

I purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and read this book each day and part of the night. I could scarcely put it down, so hungry was I for the truth I found therein. The Bible became my daily companion; every passage was illumined. As a result of this study I learned to pray aright. Ailments of long standing disappeared; instead of impatience, irritability, and lack of love, there were patience, kindness, and love, expressed without effort.
