As the date for the next admission of members to The Mother Church approaches, the thought of those of us who are now, and perhaps have been for years, the recipients of the blessings of such membership, should be newly awakened to the spiritual significance of the Church and its vital mission. A stronger and purer love for the Church and for our fellow members should animate us all, and a cordial and spontaneous welcome go out to those about to join with us in upholding and maintaining the purpose of our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in the organization and establishment of The Mother Church. She outlines this purpose in the Historical Sketch, included in the

Church Manual (p. 19), where she says:"The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass., is designed to be built on the Rock, Christ; even the understanding and demonstration of divine Truth, Life, and Love, healing and saving the world from sin and death; thus to reflect in some degree the Church Universal and Triumphant."

The blessed privilege which is ours in being brought into intimate association with this lofty purpose brings with it a precious, but grave, responsibility; and both privilege and responsibility are shared impartially by each new member as he joins our ever-increasing band.
