In Isaiah we read: "Awake...

In Isaiah we read: "Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion. ... Shake thyself from the dust."

Christian Science brings us a spiritual awakening the beauty and significance of which we realize more and more as we become increasingly aware of God's truth as taught in the Bible, demonstrated by Christ Jesus and his apostles, and now clarified for our use by our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and her other writings.

As an active member of an orthodox church for many years I sought a solution to my unsettled thoughts regarding the true nature of God and His control over the affairs of men. I had been presented with serious problems, such as business failure, sickness, the death of an infant child, and finally, to climax it all, the loss of my dear wife, who had been attended by two medical doctors and two trained nurses, whose most sincere efforts were put forth to save this dear one for us. Although the last-mentioned experience brought much grief, leaving me stranded in an Ohio industrial center with two motherless little children, hundreds of miles from relatives and close friends, and without financial means, it truly proved that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." For at this point we were led to Christian Science. Subsequently, a new home was established in California with a Christian Science mother sending the boys to a Christian Science Sunday School. We soon found that sickness and hardships were not something sent from God to be tolerated by mortals. As progress in Christian Science was made, a much better position in Iowa opened up, and it was only necessary to continue to follow God's guidance to receive the greater blessings offered by Love. The smoking habit, social drinking, and accompanying vices were completely overcome; also resentment, envy, and ill-temper were healed.
