Bible Notes

[The Biblical citations given in the Christian Science Quarterly are from the Authorized King James Version. The Bible Notes in these columns can be used, if deemed necessary, to elucidate some of the words or passages contained in the Bible Lessons. The Notes in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon designated to be read in Christian Science churches on September 27, 1942.]

"Thou, O Lord, remainest for ever" (Lam. 5:19)—The Hebrew verb which is here translated "remain" is quite often used in the special sense of "to sit as king" or "to sit enthroned." Bearing this in mind, Moffatt renders: "Thou art enthroned for ever, O Eternal;" while Smith suggests: "Thou, O Lord, art enthroned forever."

"All thy works shall praise thee, O Lord" (Ps. 145:10)—The Hebrew term which is here rendered "praise" can also mean "give thanks to." Thus while Kent prefers to retain the translation "praise," the Revised Version renders: "give thanks."
