One Divine Universe

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 264, 265) Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says, "The universe of Spirit is peopled with spiritual beings, and its government is divine Science." With confusion and destruction on all sides it is at times difficult to realize the ever-presence of the divine universe; but the consecrated study of Christian Science will enable one to become aware of it, and that awareness will act as an armor to protect the student.

The writer had an impressive proof of this fact. Returning home late one evening, she felt the great urge to get a better understanding of God's universe, so she spent some time studying our Leader's writings, together with the Concordances, looking up references on the word "universe." Many passages were read, and she finally retired with Mrs. Eddy's statement from "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 206) in her thought, "What but divine Science can interpret man's eternal existence,God's allness, and the scientific indestructibility of the universe?"

Some hours later she was awakened by a crashing just outside her bedroom window. An automobile, of which the driver had lost control, had crossed the sidewalk and turned upside down beside the window. After the first shock of the sudden awakening, she realized there was cause for rejoicing that virtually no harm was done, even the driver of the car escaping with minor injuries. It was then recognized that the time spent in study before retiring had been like the putting on of an armor which had defended her, and had prevented any serious discord from entering her experience.
