Today young men everywhere are freely offering service to their country for the preservation of the democratic ideal throughout the world. This unselfish and generous service is often at the sacrifice of their plans for education or progress in a peacetime career, of home ties, and other human pursuits dear to all.

Furthermore, the change in their experience is often so complete and drastic that radical adjustments are demanded, which call for poise and understanding far beyond previous demands made upon them.
