"As one whom his mother comforteth"

Many times when we are confronted with problems which seem difficult to solve, we long for the comforting assurance of God's presence and care. Our divine Parent knows the needs of His children, and it is not in His plan to leave them outside the warmth and comfort of His all-protecting love. One of the sweetest qualities of a human mother is the ability to calm and comfort her children. How much greater is the comfort of divine Love! God is Love, and God is everywhere. So where He is, there is no discomfort, no sorrow, no orphaned child, widowed parent, or irreparable loss.

In Isaiah we read God's promise, "As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem." We may be sure that we shall receive comfort right where we most need it.

During his ministry Christ Jesus comforted many weary, sick, and sorrowful people, and before he left this earth he said, "I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever." Mary Baker Eddy has written in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 55), "This Comforter I understand to be Divine Science." The Science which Mrs. Eddy discovered, reveals the true relationship of man to God as that of a dearly beloved son. It also reveals the harmonious government of man by divine Principle, and shows that man manifests limitless good, unmarred by loss or interference.
