My letter in reply to "Liberal Christian's" criticism...

Dundee (Scotland) Courier and Advertiser

My letter in reply to "Liberal Christian's" criticism stated simply and clearly the teaching of Christian Science in regard to the nature of evil.

May I rehearse the point by again quoting briefly from the writings of Baker the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science: "Do Christian Scientists believe that evil exists? We answer, Yes and No! Yes, inasmuch as we do know that evil, as a false claim, false entity, and utter falsity, does exist in thought; and No, as something that enjoys, suffers, or is real." "We regard evil as a lie, an illusion, therefore as unreal as a mirage that misleads the traveller on his way home" (Message to The Mother Church for 1901, p. 14).

There is no ambiguity in this statement. "Liberal Christian" may find it unacceptable, but the point which concerns the general reader is not whether a doctrine is acceptable or otherwise to an individual, but whether it is logical and demonstrable, and bears the hallmark of truth.
