About two years ago I found myself standing in "the valley of the shadow of death." Until then I had enjoyed excellent health, but within a short time ten doctors had been in attendance, I had been in two hospitals, and about thirty-five X-ray pictures had been taken. The final verdict was that the doctors could do nothing for me and I was sentenced to death within sixty days. I was suffering from cirrhosis of the liver, for which they knew no cure, although doctors, nurses, and attendants were very kind to me and relieved my suffering as much as they could.

At this time a kind friend recommended that I take up Christian Science, and gave me some of the periodicals to read. It was hard at first for me to become interested. Upon my friend's recommendation a Christian Science practitioner was called on for help, and on her first visit she advised me to get "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I procured a copy and tried to study it, but I was so materially-minded I could not seem to understand the wonderful truth made so plain in the little book, and I think if the practitioner had not been so full of love, patience, kindness, and devotion to the work I might have been tempted to give up. But after many months of tireless effort on her part, I finally gained some realization of Truth. My complete recovery was then almost instantaneous.

In reading Science and Health I found the allegory on pages 430 to 442 a big help to me; also, the testimonies of healing in our periodicals, together with the loving words of fellow students.
