Love in Action

Mary Baker Eddy says on page 3 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks;" and she continues, "Action expresses more gratitude than speech."

It may be said that love, which is a concomitant of gratitude, is likewise expressed more convincingly in deeds than in words. And Mrs. Eddy makes it very plain that she entertained that sense of love in what she says in her article entitled "Love," which begins on page 249 of her "Miscellaneous Writings." In this article she writes: "I make strong demands on love, call for active witnesses to prove it, and noble sacrifices and grand achievements as its results. Unless these appear, I cast aside the word as a sham and counterfeit, having no ring of the true metal. Love cannot be a mere abstraction, or goodness without activity and power."

The loving sacrifices made by our Leader for her friends and for all mankind, are daily becoming better known and more fuly appreciated. As her followers grow in their understanding and demonstration of Christian Science, they become more and more aware of and grateful for what Mrs. Eddy did in a practical way to make the Science of Christianity available to them and their fellow men.
