Listening

I FIND within my thought a sacred silence,
O Love divine,
Where I can listen to Thy whisperings;
Each word of Thine
More dear to me than sweetest music is.

'Tis mortal sense that hears with vague alarm
War's fearful din,
But through dominion I can choose each sound,
And welcome in
Only the harmonies of the heavenly choir.

So in the very center of the tumult,
Amid the noise,
I, listening, find a firmament within,
Where peace and poise
And harmony and heaven make their home.
