Bible Notes

[The Biblical citations given in the Christian Science Quarterly are from the Authorized King James Version. The Bible Notes in this column can be used, if deemed necessary, to elucidate some of the words or passages contained in the Bible Lessons. The Notes in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon designated to be read in Christian Science churches on July 27, 1941.]

"Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land" (Ps. 85:9)—Dr. Moffatt offers the following interesting rendering: "Soon shall his worshippers see his aid, till his great Presence dwells within our land."

"Righteousness ... shall set us in the way of his steps" (Ps. 85:13)—Literally, "Righteousness shall place his (or 'its') footsteps as a way." The Revised Version suggests: "... shall make his footsteps a way to walk in;" while Smith has: "Righteousness will... mark the way with its footsteps."
