Journal-Gasette,

In answer to a columnist in a recent issue of your paper, let me say that Christian Scientists do not ignore sickness. They are fully aware that the belief in disease and suffering is in the world. They also know that they themselves have to meet the belief that these distresses are real. They know, however, that disease and suffering are primarily mental; that they are mental states which can be healed by spiritual means.

In her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Funder of Christian Science, writes (Pref., p. xi): "The physical healing of Christian Science results now, as in Jesus' time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation."
