"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not...

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." The truth of this admonition and promise has been proved to me.

Several years ago I was temporarily employed in a very harmonious office. While working there I was told, on different occasions, of three positions open elsewhere, each one permanent, with a slightly higher salary than what I received. I was tempted to apply for each of these positions because of a seemingly urgent financial need. However, knowing our daily needs are spiritually met, I decided to let God direct my path. Each day during my lunch hour I went to a Christian Science Reading Room and prayed for guidance. I realized that divine Mind and not a material position was the source of man's supply; that this supply was continuous, abundant, and impartially bestowed on God's image, man.

While mortal mind clamored insistently that I was letting go of three chances for a permanent and more lucrative position, I felt sure that my right place was the temporary position I held. Surely man could not lose anything good by being obedient to God's directing, I thought; so I did not apply for any of the other jobs. A short time afterward, one of the employees at my office left unexpectedly, and this vacancy made a permanent place for me, with a substantial increase in salary (making my income larger than it would have been in any of the other positions previously mentioned). This office proved to be the most harmonious one in which I had ever worked, and I remained there until I moved to another city.
