Gratitude at one time seemed to me abstract and "of none effect," but as I have grown in Christian Science the meaning and worth of gratitude have greatly multiplied. It is now a true joy to bear witness to the power of Christian Science and its mighty works.
This new way of thinking and living was presented to me simultaneously with my entry into college. I gradually accepted it without feeling any particular need for healing; but as I recount the blessings of those days, I realize that Christian Science accomplished a great many healings, both physical and mental. A heart condition, which prevented me from taking active part in a physical education course, was corrected. This healing was verified by a required physical examination.
Nervous tension, accompanied by organic disorders and a very disagreeable disposition, yielded to the power of Truth. Although this demonstration took all summer to be completed, the blessings I received far surpassed the suffering. During those days I would go into the woods, taking my Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, but previous to reading I would indulge in self-pity and self-justification for a while and then cry. However, these wrongs finally gave way to prayer to God; and thereby I was healed. The extremely unlovely and unloving disposition vanished.
