Only a Mirage

[Written Especially for Children]

A little boy and his mother were driving along a highway one warm summer afternoon. There were few cars on the road, so that it was possible to see quite a distance ahead. It had been a very pleasant drive, and Sonny and his mother had been having a happy time talking of many things. He was soon to enter the first grade at school. For several years he had been going to the Christian Science Sunday School, so of course he had learned about God and God's love and care for all His children.

His mother had been telling him that when he went to school he would have many opportunities to use the lessons he had been learning in Christian Science. There would be new things to learn, new people to meet, play with, and love, and, just as important, there would be errors to be met and mastered. She was trying to explain to Sonny how error often seems very real and tries to make us afraid, when she saw something down the road.

"Look," she said; "do you see water on the highway ahead of us?"
