It is with the utmost gratitude that I give this testimony
It is with the utmost gratitude that I give this testimony. In 1918 a family of Christian Scientists came to our small New Brunswick town. Through them we heard for the first time the term "Christian Science." We were entirely ready for its teachings and were extremely surprised that such a marvelous Science was in existence and that we had not heard of it. Our need was great, for one son, a boy of twelve, was dying, and the other, a boy of two, had the same malady as his brother. It was repeatedly told us that our whole family would be wiped out.
Our elder son had been ill with bronchial pneumonia and resultant conditions for five or six years. Many doctors knew of his case, for we had spent thousands of dollars on hospitals, doctors, and nurses. Both children had been continually operated upon for gland trouble. What a revelation were the truths of being! We sent the boy to Boston to a Christian Science nursing home, where he stayed from November to April, coming home entirely well. The test came when a huge gland developed under the baby's ear. We gave up the doctor and asked for help from the same practitioner who was helping the other boy in Boston. We never had any further trouble of this kind with either of the boys.
I was so curious that I devoted myself to finding out how the healing was done. I spent hours in study, and it was my greatest joy. Numerous healings took place with the help of the faithful practitioner, and often by my own work—healings of bullet wounds, cuts, colds, croup, measles. I gave up active social life and, taking the boys from the church and Sunday school which they had been attending, joined The Mother Church in 1920. At first our friends were curious and many came to inquire. However, we seemed to stand alone in that community, and were regarded with great incredulity. So every healing had to be protected.
