Christian Science is neither "experimentation" nor "faith healing," as these words are commonly understood. Christian Science heals through a demonstrable understanding of God's spiritual law, the method used by Christ Jesus when he healed the sick and raised the dead. The faith which enters into the practice of Christian Science is the faith which is spoken of in Hebrews as "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." This faith rests upon the conviction that "the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much," and that "the prayer of faith shall save the sick." Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, explains this faith in the following sentence to be found in "Miscellaneous Writings" (pp. 196, 197) : "The Scriptures require more than a simple admission and feeble acceptance of the truths they present; they require a living faith, that so incorporates their lessons into our lives that these truths become the motive-power of every act."

Christian Science has long proved its efficacy in the healing of disease, both functional and organic, as the authenticated testimonies published in the Christian Science periodicals bear witness. In the July, 1941, issue of The Christian Science Journal are testimonies of healings of tuberculosis in its last stages, as well as ptomaine poisoning, influenza, stomach ulcers, inflammatory rheumatism, and other physical conditions considered less serious.
