Sing of Peace

MARY held the babe, and gently
Sang of peace. The winds, intently
Listening, caught up the strain,
And whispered it to crag and plain.

"On earth peace," the angels sang.
And, lo, the hillside, echoing, rang,
For all the duskiness of night
Had fled before the holy light.

Peace! The shepherd hummed the song
Softly, as he trudged along,
Guiding with a tender hand
Lambs too small to understand.

The growing years repeat this measure,
Love's sweet words for all to treasure.
Sing the song that wakened morn
When the Prince of Peace was born!
