Prayer for the New Year

Dear Father, blessed are the years
Which still unfold, in which to prove
The nothingness of sins and fears,
Thy allness as unchanging Love.
May each of us within each hour
Entreat Thy wisdom, seek Thy care,
Nor fail to give all glory, power
To Thee, for all good everywhere.

We thank Thee for humility,
And purity of righteous thought;
And may we know that unity
'Tween God and man which Jesus taught.
Let us deny all false demands,
And generous be with all things true.
May willing hearts and eager hands
Serve Thee in all we say and do.

We give Thee praise for healing truth
To shield us while the tempests rage,
To thwart the mortal claims of youth,
To break the dreams of death and age;
For even these, fear's highest peaks,
Must fall as we awake to Life.
Give us more calm when evil shrieks,
And keep us from the ways of strife.

Teach us to make Thy will our choice,
And constant gratitude express;
Our greatest need is to rejoice,
In peacefulness or seeming stress.
May mankind change its sense of time
To Life's infinitude of good,
Lose thought of hate and greed and crime
In universal brotherhood.
