I should like to take this opportunity to express my...
I should like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for many blessings which I have received through Christian Science. My parents began the study of this Science when I was an infant, and it was my blessed privilege to be a pupil in the Sunday school of a branch church. I well remember how little was made in our home of the manifestations of sickness which come to children during school days.
While in grade school, at a time when there were many cases of appendicitis, I allowed fear to come into my thought. This went on for several years, and when any person spoke of the experiences of this disease, I became fearful. One morning, while preparing to go to the office where I was employed, I was so suddenly attacked with illness that I could not finish dressing. Not having a telephone, we could not call a practitioner, so my mother treated me and then took me to a practitioner. The condition grew so much worse during the day that my parents feared I should pass on, and this fear presented itself to me also. The practitioner then came to our home and I was healed. This case was not diagnosed by a physician, but the symptoms were the ones that I had feared. This healing took place over thirty years ago.
Another experience which meant much to me was the healing of a sprained ankle. When I turned my foot the pain seemed intense for a moment, but immediately these words from "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468) came to me: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter." I telephoned a practitioner for treatment, because I felt that I must be at my place of employment that day. I experienced some difficulty in getting about, but the following morning I was healed.
