Jesus said, "Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." Christian Science teaching enables us to understand the meaning of Jesus' words and works.

Some time ago I was alone early one Sunday morning. As usual, I lighted the gas stove and went about my other duties. Shortly after this I came back into the kitchen to find that the dog must have bumped against the table, for the gas stove was lying on its side in a great flame, the table also being on fire. As I stood wondering how to extinguish it, the flame suddenly flared up into my face, burning my face, hair, and hands very badly. I heard myself saying, "Oh, thank God I am not afraid!" Then I repeated "the scientific statement of being," as given us by Mrs. Eddy on page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." I realized that I must have help, and so, having extinguished the fire, and still clinging to and repeating all the statements of truth I knew, I got into the car to go about three miles away to telephone to a practitioner. Although it was very early, she answered at once. I was impressed by the sweet comfort of her voice as she assured me that she would immediately work for me.

I came home and studied the week's Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly. The subject was "God the Only Cause and Creator;" and how I rejoiced that God was indeed "the Only Cause and Creator," and that there could be no evil effect! After that I read the Thanksgiving Lesson. I wished to sing aloud my gratitude that my eyesight had been spared. When it seemed that I was being overwhelmed with a sense of pain, I repeated the Lord's Prayer and the ninety-first Psalm, and said aloud, "God is in command, and the material senses can have no power;" also the words kept coming to me, "Beloved, now are we the sons of God," and I seemed to feel that as a child of God I was safe, and nothing could touch me.
