In the more than twenty-five years that I have looked to...

In the more than twenty-five years that I have looked to Christian Science for help in times of stress, it has never failed. One outstanding healing occurred many years ago, when our younger daughter was five years old. We were staying at the seashore for a few days when she suddenly became very ill with what appeared to be cold, fever, severe pains in the head, and an alarming lassitude. Her father and I held on to the truth, declaring only God's presence, proclaiming her wholeness and perfection, but as the hours passed the condition became aggravated. A long-distance call was placed to a friend and practitioner, whose first admonition to us was to loose her and let her go; we were reminded that indeed Love's presence was the only presence. We prayed earnestly to lose any sense of responsibility in the case and to "see the salvation of the Lord." Within an hour the pain in the child's head ceased. She dropped into a deep and peaceful sleep, and after nearly two hours she awakened with her usual gay smile and remarked that she felt fine.

When we placed the child upon her feet to dress her, we found that she was unable to move her legs from the hips down. Our first thought was one of alarm, but it was replaced by the conviction that no change could occur and that the demonstration had been made and was complete; therefore, the manifestation could only be one of perfection. Before long she remarked, "I can walk now." She was completely well. There was absolutely no period of convalescence, and the circumstance quickly faded from her consciousness. The tender recollection of the dear Father's loving care in this experience has always remained with me. It was indeed a foretaste of what the unity of God and His children is. We call and He answers.

We did not attempt to name the ailment, but in the light of the experience of others, we know that a marvelous work was done. There are no words or phrases to convey the gratitude loving parents feel for such holy experiences, but the heart rejoices and sings to know that God is "at hand" as well as "afar off."

My gratitude and reverence increase toward our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, as I learn more and more how to put into practice the truths which are revealed to us through her works. She opened the way through her own humility and consecration to her high idealism, and as I touch the hem of Truth's healing garment, I know I shall gain a greater glimpse of what she intended for mankind in her great revelation.—(Mrs.) Evah Thayer Small, Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.
