The Right Mental Attitude

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE teaches an understanding of God which implants a correct attitude of thought in its followers. Its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy, knew that the fundamental relationship between God and man is the basis for the demonstration of harmony in human experience. Her life and her works exemplified her knowledge of God and man. Following her example, students assume a right responsibility in the working out of their human affairs according to the teachings of Christian Science.

In her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," in the chapter called "Prayer," Mrs. Eddy says (p. 3) : "Who would stand before a blackboard, and pray the principle of mathematics to solve the problem? The rule is already established, and it is our task to work out the solution. Shall we ask the divine Principle of all goodness to do His own work? His work is done, and we have only to avail ourselves of God's rule in order to receive His blessing, which enables us to work out our own salvation." Recognition of this task induces a wholesome energy for study and demands application of the truth for oneself and others.

Our Leader, in the first stanza of her hymn "Christ My Refuge," writes (Poems, p. 12):
