Turning from Person to Principle

Probably one of the most arresting injunctions that a student of Christian Science receives is the admonition to turn his thought away from person to Principle. And how many have thoughtfully questioned within themselves what is meant by this turning to Principle, and what advantage is thereby gained!

Personal sense argues that our happiness depends on person; that our supply is dependent on person, or on the favorable opinion of some person; and that our sense of companionship is dependent upon the presence of our friends.

Christian Science reveals God to be divine Principle. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," on page 465, Mary Baker Eddy asks, "Is there more than one God or Principle?" And she answers this question by saying (pp. 465, 466): "There is not. Principle and its idea is one, and this one is God, omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent Being, and His reflection is man and the universe."
