In Psalms we read: "He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God."

Christian Science has truly lifted me up out of a mental pit of hopelessness, confusion, and despair into the sunlight of happiness, peace, and well-being; it has "set my feet upon a rock," a firmer foundation of spiritual understanding; it has "established my goings," for because of its ministrations I have been restored to the activities of a normal life, after an illness of two years; it has put a louder song of joy and gratitude in my heart than I had known before.

Some years ago, I experienced a keen disappointment. Later on, one who was very near and dear to me passed on. While Christian Science had been a great help many times before in my life, at this point I seemed completely overcome with grief, loneliness, regret, condemnation, and bitterness. Life held no interest whatsoever. In a feeble way, I tried to overcome this error with Christian Science, but the struggle seemed too great. My Bible and Science and Health were laid aside, and for some months I indulged in wrong thinking until my mind and body became poisoned, and I suffered a severe nervous breakdown. It was necessary for me to give up my work, and I was sent away from home for care. For many months I remained in this condition. Finally, I contracted influenza. I was confined to bed for six weeks, and it was thought that I would pass on.
