"Real consciousness"

On page 276 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy says, "Man and his Maker are correlated in divine Science, and real consciousness is cognizant only of the things of God." And Christian Science teaches that "the things of God" are the ideas, thoughts, qualities, and laws that express the nature of God.

Since God, according to the teachings of Christ Jesus and Christian Science, is Spirit—infinite good—only those thoughts which are spiritual and good are real. Therefore, nothing seeming to exist as evil or matter is real or has any actual existence. Evil thoughts, having no real source, have no real substance and no actual or divine presence. They may seem to that which Christian Science terms mortal mind to be present and capable of producing and perpetuating discord and disease, but they are no part of the reality of which real consciousness is cognizant.

In truth there is no mortal mind to take cognizance of evil, sin, disease, death, because the one and only Mind is Spirit and is infinitely and changelessly good. This one Mind, which is all-inclusive, does not include anything unlike itself; and therefore nothing evil or discordant has any place in the spiritual universe, which is Mind's expression of its own infinitude and perfection.
