Deeds, Not Words

I said . . .
"If I could speak, or write it down,
Could but express
All that is hid within of tenderness,
Of love and joy . . .
But no words come, and never one can guess
What I would give, if I found words."

Yet what are words?
Far better actions speak:
The power of loving heedfulness
To help the weak;
Compassion, giving, seeking no return;
Love that must burn
To light a living, constant flame
Whose radiance is the same
For all eternity,
A beacon lifted up for all to see.

We do not show faith best by word, but deed;
Message of love, that he who runs may read.
