The Necessity of Renouncing Evil
"The real jurisdiction of the world is in Mind, controlling every effect and recognizing all causation as vested in divine Mind." How inexpressibly comforting and reassuring are these words of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, to be found on page 379 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"! When understood, they are found equal to the healing of all difficulties in the affairs of men—personal, national, and international.
When the worst passions of the carnal mind are endeavoring to run rampant; when the individual rights of self-government, freedom, and tranquillity are being threatened by the so-called forces of evil, it is well for Christian Scientists to turn to these divinely inspired words of our Leader and to realize, with gratitude, the truth of their meaning.
What a sense of emancipation comes to the student of Christian Science as he begins to understand, even in small degree, that that which alone has real existence, and is actually present, is the one omniscient Father-Mother God and His spiritual universe, including man; that evil and discord, no matter how omnious and aggressive they appear to be, are but the false evidence of supposititious mortal mind—illusive beliefs—without a creator or sphere of action.
