I first turned to Christian Science to please my mother...
I first turned to Christian Science to please my mother, not thinking it would ever do me any good, although I was very sick at the time. I was healed, but thought that was all that I needed and stopped reading.
A few years after that I was sick and in bed for about five months. During this time I was attended by a physician, but continued to get worse. One night he told me that he had done all he could for me, but if I would go to the hospital for six months, he thought he could at least keep me from suffering so much. That night I turned to God for my healing. I read the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy much of the time, both day and night, and began to improve.
But there were other things I began to worry about, for I was very near to a nervous breakdown. Error tried to tell me that doubts and defeats were more in evidence than triumphs in my experience. I can see now that all these experiences were opportunities for growth, and that I had to learn to be more persistent in working out my salvation. I am glad that I was desirous of self-improvement, and that this desire led me to the earnest study of Christian Science.
