That God's law is ever available, ever operative, and never failing, has been proved in my experience countless times. Two healings which took place many years ago stand out as beacon lights to me along the way of spiritual progress. One was the healing of appendicitis in an alarming form; the other was of chronic throat trouble. In both cases there was no operation other than the operation of Truth in my consciousness. It was necessary for me to see that it was not the appendix or the tonsils that needed to be removed, but merely the false beliefs about them. The healing of appendicitis was quick and permanent, while the other was a gradual but sure healing.

Another beautiful proof of God's tender, constant care occurred one Saturday night. I was forced to retire because I was suffering from all the symptoms of grippe. I felt so ill that the only thought I could grasp was the realization that I must refuse to fall asleep until I could see the unreality of the evil suggestions. At first my thoughts were scarcely coherent, and it was a struggle to keep mentally alert and awake, but I persisted, and gradually the light appeared. Powerful statements from the Bible and from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy began to fill my consciousness. When the following sentence from Science and Health (p. 151) governed my thoughts, "All that really exists is the divine Mind and its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found harmonious and eternal," I felt that the mesmerism had been destroyed. An indescribable peace took possession of me, and although the physical symptoms were still very discordant, I knew that all was well, and fell asleep. I arose the next morning entirely free, and rejoicingly went on my way to church to be in my place as Second Reader.

I wish at this time to express my deep gratitude for the sustaining power that Christian Science afforded me at the tragic passing on of our son, and for the spiritual conviction that came to me that Life is eternal. I strove diligently to get a spiritual, satisfying sense of joy and of man's completeness. I realized that God is never without His witness, and strove to put the Cause of Christian Science before self, and I missed but one Sunday from my post as Second Reader. God was helping me every step of the way. Christian Science proved indeed to be the Comforter, and showed me that there is no grief so deep that Love's touch cannot reach and heal it.
