About the year 1900 I was suffering from what five doctors diagnosed as diabetes. I was told by these doctors that I could never be cured. I was constantly in a weak and exhausted state.
I was introduced to Christian Science while I was spending two weeks with a friend. One morning I discussed my condition, which was worse than usual, with this friend. She said that I could be healed. I asked her who could heal me, and she said, "God." I laughed at this answer, and replied that God could not heal me, for I did not believe in God. My friend was not discouraged because of my rejoinder. She told me a lot more about God as taught in Christian Science, so much so that I said, "Well, I do not know your God, but if He is willing to heal me, I am willing to be healed; but remember, I have no faith and do not believe in God."
About the time of this conversation I was taking three kinds of medicine each day. A Christian Scientist, who was visiting my friend, said that she would work for me if I would give up the use of these medicines. I said, "I will not throw them out, for I might need them again; but I promise not to touch them." Following this conversation, for the first time in three or four weeks, I slept the night through without interruption. In one week I was completely and permanently healed.
