The years of suffering I endured before coming to the light of Truth, as revealed in Christian Science, are as a dream that is past. At the age of four years I was stricken with lung fever, as it was called at that time. The doctors held out to my parents no hope for my recovery, but with my mother's loving care I was relieved of the condition, although I was an invalid for many years and was never free from pain. I always seemed to be longing for something until I learned of Christian Science, which healed me. Since then my life has been full, and I have a satisfied assurance of God's goodness and protection from discord.

My healing came about through a woman who came to live in the apartment house where I was residing in 1910, and who talked to me about Christian Science. I did not know anything about this religion, but when she mentioned the Bible, I was very much interested. I had been reared in a Presbyterian church which my father had helped to organize, and I had never missed attendance at Sunday school, if my health permitted me to be there, and I read the New Testament. This friend went on to say that in the first chapter of Genesis it is written: "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. . . . And God saw everything he had made, and, behold, it was very good. . . . So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him." I then realized that God never made sickness; that I had looked for God all my life and now had found Him; and that I really had never been sick. I was healed instantaneously of tuberculosis of the lungs, stomach, and bowels.

My great desire was to study and learn more of the truth contained in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I feel sure now that it was the twenty-third Psalm which memorized when a child, and repeated faithfully many times a day, that sustained and finally led me to Christian Science. With the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner I have had many healings since finding the truth. After several months' treatment I was healed of cancer, and I am grateful to say I had no fear at any time. I am grateful for many healings, some with the help of a practitioner, others through my own study and work. I am grateful for having had the Christian Science literature all through the years of the seeming depression; for the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, who had the love and patience to search the Scriptures and to bring this truth to the world, that all mankind might find health and happiness in her writings in connection with the Bible. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for class instruction, for all the activities of The Mother Church, and for the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, the study of which is essential for spiritual growth.
