I should like to relate an experience which shows God's tender care and protection for all who put their trust in Him and are trying to follow His guidance.
I was completely and permanently healed of heart trouble by the reading of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and of some of the Christian Science literature. After my healing I attended the services of a Christian Science Society for some time, and expressed a desire to unite with it. The minister of the orthodox church, of which I was then a member, came to see me to try to persuade me to change my mind. He told me he had read through Science and Health when he was studying for the ministry, and he said, "Now I am going to tell you where Mrs. Eddy is wrong." At that moment a verse of Scripture came to me as clearly and distinctly as if someone were speaking to me: "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." I began to wonder where this verse was. I knew that it was from the Bible, but could not remember ever having memorized it. It occupied my thought so completely that when the minister said, "Now I hope I have convinced you Christian Science is wrong," I felt confused and embarrassed, for I had not heard one word of his argument. I simply told him that I knew Christian Science was the truth, for it had healed me. He said that he was sorry he had failed to convince me, but that he would get Science and Health and read it again, then he could come back and explain his argument better.
A year passed before he called again, and I was glad he had waited so long, for I was better prepared to answer his arguments. All he said was: "I stopped on my way home and bought the little book and started reading it and I have been reading it ever since. It is beautiful. I only wish it could have come through the church I love so much."
