"Individual consciousness, or man"

IN "Unity of Good" (p. 24) Mrs. Eddy writes: "All consciousness is Mind; and Mind is God, — an infinite, and not a finite consciousness. This consciousness is reflected in individual consciousness, or man, whose source is infinite Mind." So man is an individual consciousness; and true consciousness is thus wholly spiritual, and therefore wholly good.

Should we be tempted to think of anyone as just a finite person, we must exchange this view for the understanding which sees only the son of God, the real man. As we see our real selves as the true man, it is easier for us to see others as they are in reality. We should refuse to think of ourselves as other than the idea of God, forever the unchanging manifestation of perfect divine Mind. Spiritual consciousness being our true selfhood, we must faithfully watch the character of our thoughts.

Nothing is known to us except that which we include in our consciousness; and it is there that we realize the oneness and allness of Mind, God. To acknowledge only one Mind results in harmony; to believe in many minds produces apparent discord, expressed in sickness, poverty — bondage of some kind. The belief in minds many and in discord is not excluded from our consciousness by ignoring it, but by knowing and proving its unreality. To ignore anything is to allow it to remain in our thought as reality, whereas to know its unreality is to divest it of any supposed power.
